Brazilian Zouk is currently one of the fastest growing styles in the social dance scene. Often referred to as a “three-dimensional dance”, it not only involves travel across the floor but also unique body isolations and head movements. Because of its foundation of connection and breath,j those who have experienced this beautiful dance often say it feels like no other social dance, producing a heightened state of awareness similar to meditation. Neo Zouk is danced on a slow-quick-quick rhythm similar to Salsa On2 and can be soft and sensual or fast and energetic, depending on the music and dancers. In this class you will explore the core foundations of Neo Zouk and understand how to build upon these movements with a focus on connection awareness, lead and follower sensitivity, musicality, and breath. Many of these concepts and movements can enhance and be applied to many types of social dance, particularly in the popular Bachata Sensual style that incorporates many Brazilian Zouk elements. Biography:
Yuan Xing first discovered her passion for dance through classical ballet, later falling in love with the connection and improvisation of expression found in social dance. With over 20 years of dance experience, Yuan has a diverse background in a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, hip hop, Bollywood, salsa, and bachata. She has performed nationally in Latin dance and has taught Urban Bachata Fusion and Zouk in Los Angeles and New York City. Yuan believes that on the social dance floor, each dance is a unique experience, and her teaching philosophy focuses on building a strong understanding of connection and technique to allow for maximum expression and individual interpretation. She has been traveling internationally over the last year to train and is excited to share her passion and help grow the Zouk community here in in San Diego.
